Tell Your Story

Friday, May 10, 7pm | A sacred storytelling adventure awaits!

A small group is being developed to take part in a special storytelling project at HopeGateWay facilitated by Stacey Knight, one of our Worship Managers.

Everyone has profound life experiences that have shaped them. These experiences may have set you on a different path than you had planned, taught you a valuable lesson, changed your perspective, or made you laugh.

These stories deserve to be told.

Stacey is a 2nd year student at the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine (ChIME) and is on track to being ordained as an interfaith minister in June. As part of the chaplaincy program, Stacey is required to complete an internship. This storytelling project is part of her internship.

Over the next few months, Stacey will work with the participants 1:1 as well as in a group setting to help each of them develop a story from their life that they would like to share. Once a story is identified, Stacey will coach (if needed) the storyteller on giving an effective verbal presentation. There will be lots of practice and support.

The exciting part:
Each participant will have the opportunity to tell their story to a wider audience on Friday, May 10 on the HopeGateWay stage! This event will be open to the wider community outside of HGW.

This group is for you if:
You have a fear of public speaking that you would like to overcome.
You are already an accomplished speaker and would like a forum in which to tell your story,
You have life lessons to pass on.

Why have Stacey help you develop and deliver your marvelous story? Well first, to help her complete an internship project. It is also a beneficial project for HGW to showcase the stage as a community venue.

Here is some background on Stacey’s experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Theater from the University of Southern Maine.
Member and Officer at various clubs in Toastmasters, and international organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills.
Coached and mentored several club members
Successful competitive speaker within Toastmasters.
2021 District Champion in public speaking for District 45 Toastmasters which encompasses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, eastern Massachusetts, and eastern Canada.

Check out her winning speech, an example of impactful storytelling:
